Biography
João Guedes was born in Oporto on December 11, 1985. Surfing was already a tradition in his family, so it was something that he grew with and that has always had a great role in his personal, family and professional life. Through surf, João was fortunate to learn to live in harmony with the sea and nature. A lot of the person that he is today he owes to surf, that, more than a sport, it’s a way of life. At professional level, João conquered some national titles in different categories and the title of absolute national champion, which was delivered to him here in Nazaré in 2009. João had several participations in the national team, and competed in the world qualifying circuit (WQS) for 5 years. In recent years the search for the most perfect and tubular waves has been a constant, but the main focus and goal has been surfing big waves that, with the help of the Jet Resgate team, allowed him to achieve a few nominations for the WSL – XXL Big Wave Awards, three of them here in Nazaré.
